FanDuel tennis retirement and disqualification rules

Pays the player who goes through with no minimum play at all, and refunds backers of the one who left - whether they retired or were disqualified.

Retirement and disqualification are written into the same sentence here, so the cause makes no difference to how you are paid.

The rule, in their words

“In the event of a retirement or disqualification at any time after the match has started, all bets on the completed service games & points will stand. For match betting purposes, regardless of the point in the match, bets on the retiring player or pair will be void, while bets on the player or pairing progressing to the next round (or winning the tournament in the case of a final) will be deemed the winner, across all grades of tennis.”

Read and verified on FanDuel’s own published rules, 2026-10-05. Operators change these without notice, so we re-read them each time this page is updated.

Other markets

Set betting is always void. Completed service games and points stand. Everything else void unless already determined.

Worth knowing

Asymmetric: the winner's backer is paid and the loser's backer refunded, so the market is not zero-sum. Secondary sites widely list FanDuel as a one-set book - their own rules say "regardless of the point in the match". Ohio rules; FanDuel publishes per state.

Common questions

Does FanDuel pay out if a tennis player retires in the first set?

Yes. The rule applies regardless of the point in the match and across all grades of tennis, so a retirement two games in settles like one in the fifth set: the player who advances wins.

What happens to a bet on the player who retired at FanDuel?

It is voided and the stake returned, not settled as a loser. The market pays one side in full and refunds the other, which is worth knowing if you are hedging across books.

Does FanDuel settle a tennis disqualification like a retirement?

Yes. The governing sentence covers "a retirement or disqualification at any time after the match has started", so a defaulted match pays the player who advances. That is the opposite of bet365.

Do FanDuel's tennis rules vary by state?

FanDuel publishes per state and the clause here is the Ohio one. Read the version for the state you are betting in.
