Betfair Sportsbook tennis retirement and disqualification rules

Stands once the first set is concluded - but ITF, UTR and exhibition matches are ALWAYS void on a retirement, however much was played.

Retirement and disqualification are written into the same sentence here, so the cause makes no difference to how you are paid.

The rule, in their words

“Where a player or pairing retires or is disqualified in an ITF, UTR or exhibition match: all match bets will be voided”

Read and verified on Betfair Sportsbook’s own published rules, 2026-10-05. Operators change these without notice, so we re-read them each time this page is updated.

Other markets

Other markets void unless the outcome was unequivocally determined. A player withdrawn before their first match voids outright bets.

Worth knowing

The tier carve-out is the trap for anyone betting lower-level tennis, and no comparison site mentions it. It also puts Betfair's two products in direct conflict - see the Exchange page.

Common questions

Does Betfair Sportsbook void ITF retirements?

Yes, always. ITF, UTR and exhibition matches are carved out of the one-set rule: a retirement voids all match bets however much was played. At Tour level the same retirement after a set would stand.

Is the Betfair Exchange rule the same as the Betfair Sportsbook rule?

No. The Exchange applies one-set to any match with no tier carve-out, so on an ITF retirement after two sets the Exchange settles and the Sportsbook voids.
